Water This property is highlighted by 1.25 miles of both sides of the James River. This stretch of the James River is unique in that it offers both deep holes and fast flowing rapids. Along with the James River is a beautiful spring-fed creek with several dams, holding a few acres of water, surrounding the house. Several springs and seasonal creeks are found throughout the ranch. The property has 2 operable water wells, both electric. One at the main gate supplies water to a Pila and water trough. The other water well is located at the Headquarters and waters the buildings at the main headquarters and sprinkler at the houses. At one time, water from the spring filled the limestone cistern that sits at the Headquarters.
Terrain/Vegetation The property has very diverse soils, vegetation and topography. The ranch his relatively good level fertile soil. This ranch offers the perfect combination of hills and good low lying fertile land. Hardwoods include Live Oak, Cedar, Post Oak, Cedar Elm plus mesquite, other native trees and grasses. Selective clearing has been done over the years to remove cedar on the eastern side of the property. Elevations range from 2,100 feet to 1,700 feet elevations ASL.
Welcome to La Chifladura Ranch! This property is comprised of 404 acres traversed by clear flowing James River in southern Mason County. Endless panoramic hill country views await you atop the hills and bluffs on the north side of the river. There is approx. 3,650 ft of James River frontage on both sides and three and a half miles of riparian creek beds descending from the hills into the river creating deep draws excellent for exploring, hunting and hiking.
Hidden on the south bank of James River is a 1383 sq ft, 3/2 house built in 1998 great for a weekend retreat or river cabin. The home comes complete with all appliances. One interior feature that is sure to be mentioned, is the stone fireplace that extends the entirety of the vaulted ceilings with a surrounding hearth for extra seating. The exterior was built of native stone from the ranch with a metal roof providing minimum maintenance. Out the back door is a back porch that faces the river and river bluffs enhancing relaxation/meditation prospects. A carport and storage shed/deer cleaning station are also included.
Hunting is common place on this ranch. It comes with the conveyance of 3 feeders and four hunting blinds. There is an abundance of wildlife, such as white-tail deer, turkey, hogs and dove to name a few. This lovely lodge is the perfect rental for a glamping vacation or Social Isolation near Fredericksburg and Mason in Texas. (45 minutes) It sleeps up to 12 guests and is perfect for groups and families. There are four queen-size beds in the four downstairs bedrooms and five twin-size beds in the unique loft space. A futon pad is also available to accommodate extra guests. There are two full bathrooms and an outdoor shower for convenience. Guests can enjoy a full kitchen that is equipped with everything they will need to prepare delicious meals. This includes a four-burner stove, a microwave, a range of pots and pans, a griddle, a toaster, and a coffee pot. There is air conditioning on both floors to keep guests comfortable. Guests can also enjoy access to the river that runs through the middle of the property. The ranch lodge also includes an indoor and an outdoor fireplace. The remote location guarantees breathtaking star watching.Guests will find the property equipped with everything they will need to relax in style. There is a 10-foot wide, wrap-around porch that surrounds the rental and is the perfect place to take in the breathtaking views. The host also provides picnic tables where guests can sit and overlook the river. There is an outdoor fireplace that creates a cozy vibe during the evening. Parking is available on the property.

There are many volunteers who come out to help with horse care and property clean up. Visitors are welcome.
